If you’ve read our previous article – the 411 on the FDD – you’ll know all about the Franchise Disclosure Document. But for those of you who are new around here, the FDD is basically a Bible for potential franchisees, containing important information such as the franchisor's background, history, fees and expenses, intellectual property rights, territory restrictions, training and support and contractual obligations.

 

In Australia, many franchisors provide an FDD to comply with legal requirements and ensure transparency in the franchising process. Usually, a franchisor must give a potential franchisee a copy of their disclosure document at least 14 days before the franchisee enters into the franchise agreement or makes a non-refundable payment.

 

The Australian Government’s Franchise Disclosure Register contains a list of all franchises that provide an FDD from the get-go – you just have to filter your search based on the ones that provide this detail up front.
